A Modern Addition to an Expansive, Unique Home
Situated on dozens of acres behind the Ouachita River levee, the Cuba Farm residence is a picturesque icon of southern charm. Over its nearly 100-year history, the home has seen numerous additions and renovations, each adding to its character. This latest transformation addressed the lack of indoor and outdoor gathering areas to better suit the owners’ active, social lifestyle. The result is a new great room, dining room, and expansive porch along with significant upgrades to the HVAC systems, windows, and overall energy efficiency. The reimagined floor plan not only provides beautiful new living spaces, but also ensures the home remains a cherished gathering place for years to come.
An existing screen porch (right) connected the kitchen to the master bedroom. The space was enclosed and conditioned to become the new dining room. High efficiency windows were installed to ensure abundant natural light without compromising on performance.
The existing screen porch (left) led to an undersized covered outdoor area. The space was small and received little light. A new addition was added to the end to become the new great room, which now floods this space with light, and acts as a connector between living spaces.
The existing undersized covered porch was removed to make way for the home’s new centralized great room. Rich wood tones from the pine flooring and white oak ceiling flood the room with warmth. The room boasts expansive views to undisturbed woods and direct access to the new outdoor living area.
Due to frequent flooding from the river, the home is significantly raised. The higher elevation allows for sweeping views of the surrounding land.
The existing porch (right) was expanded and covered, and an outdoor kitchen was installed. Motorized insect screens, ceiling fans, and heaters were also installed to allow for year-round use.
